Discover the Deep, Toasty Flavor of HD-3 Dark Roast Hojicha Powder

We tasted hundreds of dark-roast hojicha powders before selecting this one from Aichi Prefecture. Here’s our 4-step professional tasting method so you know exactly what your customers will experience:

Step 1 – Appearance

A rich, deep chestnut-brown powder with a silky, fine texture. When whisked, it turns into a warm amber liquid with a light, inviting foam, no grassy green, just pure roasted elegance.

Step 2 – Aroma

Intense roasted notes hit first: toasted hazelnuts, warm caramel, a whisper of dark chocolate and a gentle smoky charcoal finish. The signature pyrazine aroma is calming and addictive, exactly why hojicha lattes are trending on TikTok and Instagram right now.

Step 3 – Taste

Bold yet surprisingly sweet. Starts with deep roasted caramel and toasted nuts, then melts into smooth chocolatey richness. Zero bitterness, even at stronger ratios. The dark roast brings out natural sweetness and a lingering toasty warmth.

Step 4 – Mouthfeel

Velvety and full-bodied with almost no astringency. Feels creamy even with oat or almond milk, perfect for lattes that compete with coffee but stay caffeine-light.

Sourced Directly from Aichi Prefecture, Japan

Aichi is one of Japan’s hidden gems for high-quality roasted teas. The region’s unique microclimate and traditional roasting techniques produce hojicha with exceptional depth and consistency.

We work with trusted family farms that follow organic practices (no synthetic pesticides), even though we keep it non-certified to keep prices competitive for your business. Every batch is personally approved in Japan before it ships to our warehouse in Belgium.

Why Dark Roast?

Higher roasting temperature transforms the leaves into something completely different: almost caffeine-free (<10 mg per cup), naturally sweet, and incredibly versatile. Your customers will love it as a soothing evening alternative to coffee or matcha.

How to Prepare (Super Simple)

Classic Hot Hojicha Latte (350 ml)

  1. Sift 4–5 g of HD-3 into a bowl or jug.
  2. Add 60 ml hot water (80 °C / 175 °F).
  3. Whisk vigorously in M/W motion until frothy (10–15 seconds).
  4. Pour over 240 ml steamed or frothed milk (dairy, oat, almond, all work beautifully).
  5. Sweeten if desired (brown sugar or vanilla syrup pair perfectly).
  • Iced Version → same steps, pour over ice.
  • Pure Hojicha Tea → 2 g + 200 ml 85 °C water, whisk or stir.

(Pro tip for cafés: pre-mix the “shot” in the morning, it holds well for hours.)
